The man of our time, intoxicated by his success in the technical infrastructure, considers himself a master of the universe, omnipotent "creator" that may signal development and progress while defining his fate. In reality, however, he has been enslaved by his creatures and has become a prisoner of his visions. He seems like being in a sea whose waves thinks he is taming, but in fact he is a slave to its overpowering strength. While trying to beat the ravages of time, has been deeply alienated and forgets his true nature. Punished for this "insult", which is embodied in the form of the so called “memory loss”, haunting him, and travels him in the ocean of a falsified happiness and a virtual reality. The technology has transited from a helper of man, into a voracious power which stupors his mind, gnawing thoughts and reflections. The way the achievements of technology being promoted, the new forms of communication, are particularly "romantic". All these do not stop us from questioning ourselves about how innocent and harmless all this fast progress may be. What is Good and what is Evil anyway? A lot of questions, unanswered, are born every day and get multiplied exponentially. We use to talk about the information society, the free knowledge distribution, and also free access to it. Books and written papers have fallen over the World Wide Web services. Eventually, is this the way thoughts and critical faculties of a man being promoted? Are his awareness and memory growing or do they slack in? Does the ease with which anyone can seek information make someone a thinking man, or does it lead to spiritual inertia? Is "path of knowledge" the "path of oblivion" after all? Computers, as a result of technological development, despite the endless possibilities they provide for access to knowledge, often act as a "deadly weapon" in the hands of the ones that seek to hypnotize consciences, to weaken the power of strength and resistance, and to make man a plaything to serve petty interests. Certainly, knowledge is power. But Oblivion serves better purposes. So, in my attempt to express my concerns, reacting to apathy and complacency that consciously being promoted, to get out of life's «matrix», I represent the "Fahrenheit 2013", drawing from the oblivion's bottom the view of nowadays, painting the - romantic and humble - antithesis of my answer to the questions which torture me, framed by a pair of virtual memory sockets... Fahrenheit was just the harbinger of all those a man of nowadays faces. He lives in a natural environment, disrespecting and destroying it, in ignorance of preparing his own death. He Utilizes energy sources, such as radiation, causing shamelessly countless disasters to mankind. He drew telecommunications while being indifferent to the risks posed by wireless communication technologies. Is like to see an improved version of "Fahrenheit 451". No, I am not convinced that the advantages are economical. It may not be as "cheap" man. The reason must... must be something else. Once upon a time, someone said: "Knowledge is power." Speaking mathematics, this implies to: "Oblivion is a weakness" They just want us to be weak. Unable to think. Unable to react. Incapable of judging. So that they will never get judged. Where do they account for really? Was Fahrenheit 451 a "serial number" after all? Today we live in Fahrenheit 2013, tomorrow there will be Project 2014... Are there a lot more to follow? Will Good prevail in this titanic struggle against Evil? That depends on the man. If he re-prioritizes values, if he opposes oblivion to memory, there is hope once again to switch from a slave to master of his technological achievements. Let's hope this fight is not Sisyphean and the trip to the conquest of the spirit and knowledge to be accompanied by creative wind... Project Analysis “Fahrenheit 2013” is an installation project inspired by the thoughts and beliefs I described above. It consists of wooden trays, linen canvases, acrylic paints and inox metal parts. It depicts a surreal form of a book – an album - which has been mutated into an "electronic" form, hence the virtual computer memory parts on the back cover. The inner pages consist of fire’s red colored Plexiglas sheets that have imprinted captions from the book of “Fahrenheit 451” in honor of Ray Bradbury, but converted in a binary form, the speaking language of machines! Two opposed worlds, just like the complementary colors - red and green - that constitute the whole project, which in contrast to the position in the color circle, they have similar color values, showing existence problems when in contact, and tend to erode each other in an even more tragic color clash.
