"2012" reveals the truth about the present of our country, about the future “they” are preparing to us. The debt crisis, which was a slow-burning "bomb" on the foundations of the Greek state, which was finally culminated in 2012, has now turned into a multi-faceted economic, social and political crisis. Within this agonizing spin, Greece is facing threats and issues that seem to come back from the past: bankruptcy, default, foreign aid, international financial control, financial guardianship. Perhaps, the most important question which remains unchanged for decades now: Is Greek state capable of becoming economically and thus politically independent? In 1947, the U.S. military officer Paul Porter wrote that "The opposing political parties of Greece, those who are interested in preservation of the Greek independence, should try to “bridge” their differences and work for the common good of their country. Unless they stop the internal political tension, the economy of Greece is impossible to recover…" Today, in 2012, these words of Porter sound more relevant than ever. The painting “2012” consists of an asymmetric diptych, chasted, which describes Greece, one of the countries of the universe with ancient history, in the year 2012, disintegrated by the materialism of our time, puts up a fight in order to save the last tiny virgin part of her. The heart of her flag, the white Cross. The idea of asymmetric diptych came from how the artist realizes Greece nowadays. One part of it (the left one) is still clear, in-borders. The big part of it though, the one that has to do with the disintegration as a result of the materialism, has already crossed the “safe” borders. The concept is being represented by the Greek flag extracted on a special barcode-like canvas'. If that barcode gets scanned, it will give the title of this artwork, the "2012".
